THIS WEEKEND

Happy Mother’s Day!
Let us thank God for our families and pray that all family members may grow close in love and respect for one another. May all church families also be mindful that we are indeed “members one of another” (Ephesians 4:25).

Native American Ministries Weekend
Your Generous Gifts help develop and strengthen Native American ministries.  It provides scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist schools of theology and other schools approved by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church.   In addition, it expands the number of target cities in the Native American Urban Initiative project.

Food Donation Weekend                                                                             This second weekend of the month is food donation weekend.  Please be a part of this wonderful ministry nonperishable items the second Sunday of the month.  The collection boxes are in the Narthex.

NEW THIS WEEK!

GREAT JOB MARIA!
Maria Diminet from Moldova presented the local food shelf with a check for $460 along with several boxes of food and clothing. She collected the donations from area residents in Knoxville and Columbia as part of a task she was assigned by her host organization, World Link, to do a global youth community service project. Diminet says poverty is a large issue in her home country and she plans to use this project as an example on how to help alleviate the problem in Moldova. Also, thank you to all of those who contributed to this project.

THANK YOU
We have received many very nice comments from members of the community about the flowers on the island in the circular drive. We would like to express our appreciation to church members in the Knoxville Federated Garden Club for their input, John and Darlene Scott for the work they have done of planting and caring for the garden for several years.  Last spring Virginia Rayl volunteered to take over the care of the garden and we greatly appreciate all the tender loving care she has given the garden as it comes to bloom once again this spring.

ONGOING NEWS…

YOUTH GROUP NEWS               The Salt and Light Company will be meeting on Sunday, May 15 from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m.  We will be having an extra hour this month as we will be helping Maria in her collection of food items and donations for Helping Hands.  The group will be going out into the community to collect donations also.   Donations may also be dropped off at church on Sunday morning.  All youth in 6th through 12th grade are encouraged to attend.
HANDICAPPED PARKING       There are not enough handicapped parking spots on the south side of the church to meet the expanding needs of our church. Attendance is picking up and we are in need of more parking spots by the south side entrance for those not able to walk far.  We have available parking spots in our parking lot on the east side of the church and also the city parking lot to the west for those young at heart and body as well.
MSPS GRADUATION/CONCERT
Montgomery Street Preschool Graduation and Spring Concert will take place on Thursday, May 19 at 7pm.
