People:           The uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places
a plain.
Leader:           Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
People:           And all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

LIGHTING OF THE ADVENT CANDLES – Jake & Erika DeGeest

ADVENT PRAYER
Leader:            “In the wilderness prepare the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God” (Isa. 40:3)
People:           As we wait in darkness, our hope is rekindled by the light of the Lord shining in the night.  We offer our lives to serve the Lord with our renewed hope.
Leader:            Last week we lit the first candle in our Advent wreath – the candle of watching and anticipation.
(Light one purple candle in the Advent wreath.)
(All Sing)
Light the Advent candle, one:  Now the waiting has begun; we have started on our way, time to think of Christmas Day.  Candle, candle, burning bright, shining in the cold winter night; candle, candle, burning bright, fill our hearts with Christmas light.
Leader:  Today we come to the wreath, knowing that waiting is a part of our lives.  We light the second candle, praying that in this time of waiting we would learn to be straighteners and builders of a highway for God.
(Light a second purple candle in the Advent wreath.)(Light a second purple candle in the Advent wreath.)
(All Sing)
Light the Advent candle; two:  Think of humble shepherds, who filled with wonder at the sight of the child of Christmas night.
Candle, candle, burning bright, shining in the cold winter night; candle, candle, burning bright, fill our hearts with Christmas light.

Prayer:   Lord we confess that we become impatient with our waiting for Christmas.  Send us the gift of spiritual guidance in this season of waiting so our heart preparations enable Christmas to become a celebration of Jesus’ birth and thus bring about our new birth in His love.  Amen.
