CINNAMON ROLL SUNDAY

CAN/BOTTLE DRIVE Sunday, February 12 from 3-5p at the church garage on 4^th Street.   Proceeds from the drive will go toward the youth mission trip this summer. 

FOOD DONATION

The second weekend of the month is food donation weekend.    Please be a part of this wonderful ministry by dropping off your canned goods and/or other nonperishable items in the basket in the Narthex.  

DISABILITIES AWARENESS COLLECTION

Disabilities Awareness Sunday is to be observed February 12, the second Sunday of the month, to celebrate the gifts and graces of persons with disabilities and promote their full inclusion in the community. One hundred percent of the offering collected is retained by the Iowa Annual Conference to provide grants to local churches that will assist in removing architectural and attitudinal barriers to accessibility.

CHANGES IN CRAZY LOVE STUDY GROUP

The Crook’s Wednesday evening study group for Crazy Love has now joined with the Rathmel’s study group.   Both groups will now have combined meetings at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in EFH. 

CHANGE OF LOCATION

Rebecca’s Circle meeting on February 16 has been changed from EFH to Park Lane Assisted Living.

DEVOTIONAL BOOKS

There are Lenten devotional books from the Society of St. Andrew available in the church office or on the church office window ledge. 

ASH WEDNESDAY

A special Ash Wednesday Service will be held at FUMC on Wednesday, February 22 at 7:00 p.m.

LAY LENTEN DEVOTIONALS

Beginning Wednesday, February 29, there will be a light meal served in WFH from 5:45-6:30 p.m. followed by a 30 minute devotional presented by FUMC lay speakers from the lectionary series “Call Him Savior”.   These Lenten devotionals will continue subsequently each Wednesday of Lent through March 28. 

NOON ECUMENICAL LENTEN SERVICES

Also, beginning Wednesday, February 29, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of FUMC, pastors from local churches will give a 30 minute Lenten Devotion followed by a light lunch served in WFH.  The ecumenical services will continue through March 28.

ONGOING NEWS… HELPING HANDS KIDS CARNIVAL The Helping Hands Kids Carnival fundraiser will be held on Saturday, February 18th, in the Middle School gym.  There will be inflatable rides as well as many other community organizations providing activities for the kids.  All proceeds go to the Helping Hands Food Pantry. CRAZY LOVE 

CHAPTER 3 & 1 Corinthians 13 and John 3:16 & 17 questions

1)      How would you explain the difference between knowing God’s love intellectually and knowing it intimately? 

2)      Think about your life and your relationship with God.  How does God demonstrate His love to you?  Be specific.  How do these demonstrations of God’s love affect you?  (Don’t think about how these things ought to make you feel; describe how they actually make you feel and what they move you to do.)

3)      Describe some things that have made you question God’s love for you (whether God gave you things you didn’t want, didn’t give you what you wanted, or took something good from you).  How do these things make you feel about God and His love? 

4)      In light of your circumstances, what would it mean to believe and embrace God’s love for you?

5)      Do you remember the moment when you “got it,” when you first realized you loved God with your heart, mind and soul?  Describe that moment.  

6)      How can you work together with the Christians in your life to remind one another throughout the week of the love Jesus demonstrated on the cross?  

7)      Can you honestly say that you believe God is the greatest good in the universe?  If not, what keeps you from affirming this?  If so, what makes Him the greatest good?

8)      What is love?   List the seven characteristics of what love is and the eight that it is not in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7?

9)  Rewrite each of the “love is…” qualities to show what love ought to look like in your specific situations at home, work, church, etc.  Which one do you feel the need to work on this week?

BOY SCOUT SUNDAY

Join us, Sunday, February 12, during Cinnamon Roll Sunday for a memorable review of the past as the boy scouts of Knoxville Troop 377 present last year’s experience from Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. 

VALENTINE DINNER

Bring your significant other and enjoy a lovely Italian meal for only $5.00 at Knoxville First Presbyterian Church on February 10, 2012 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Babysitting is available from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. for a donation.  Proceeds benefit Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
